As of December 4, 2024, Instagram discontinued its Basic Display API, which was used to connect personal Instagram accounts to Spotlight and other apps. You can read more about this decision and how it affects Spotlight users here.

The new alternative is to switch your Instagram account to a professional account (Creator or Business) for free, and use the new connection methods provided in Spotlight.

To display Instagram posts on your WordPress site, you need to authorize Spotlight to access the data from your professional Instagram account.

This can be done in a few simple steps depending on the type of connection you require:

Advanced accounts require a Facebook page to be connected to your professional Instagram account. This will give you access to more features in Instagram and Spotlight. Learn more.

Connecting while creating your first feed

When you create your first feed, Spotlight asks you to connect your Instagram account right after you pick a layout. A popup will appear to complete the secure connection.

On the free version, click Connect my Instagram account. This uses the Basic connection.

Spotlight's connect step with the Connect my Instagram account button and the option to skip and preview with sample posts.

On a premium plan, choose Connect via Instagram (Basic) or Connect via Facebook (Advanced).

Spotlight's connect step on a premium plan with the Connect via Instagram (Basic) and Connect via Facebook (Advanced) buttons.

Not ready to connect yet? Click Skip for now to preview your feed with sample posts. You can connect your account later from the feed editor, or from Instagram Feeds > Settings > Accounts.

Note: Spotlight is approved and verified by Facebook to make use of the Instagram API. This ensures that your connection and your data are always kept secure. Spotlight doesn’t store any of your personal data for itself, all posts are solely imported into your database which only you have access to. More details can be in our Privacy Policy.
